Lagos Police Arrest 60-Years-Old Man for Rape and Remand Him in Custody

The Lagos State Police Command’s Gender Unit has apprehended a 60-year-old man, Ajayi Femi, for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman.

According to a statement released by the command, the incident occurred on August 22, 2025, and was reported by the victim’s sister to the Meiran Police Station.

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, noted that the investigation revealed the suspect allegedly spiked the survivor’s drink, rendering her unconscious, before committing the crime.

Hundeyin emphasized that the medical examinations conducted by the Gender Unit corroborated the survivor’s account, saying,
“Medical examinations conducted by the Gender Unit corroborated the survivor’s account, while the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.”

The suspect has been remanded in prison custody pending further proceedings.

The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offenses, stating,
“the command remains committed to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offences.”

This arrest follows a similar incident weeks prior, where a 45-year-old man was apprehended in Ikotun for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, sparking widespread outrage and calls for stiffer penalties against sex offenders.
