The Lagos State enforcement team recently dislodged illegal vendors operating along Bishop Oluwole Street in Victoria Island.
According to the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the operation was part of ongoing initiatives to reclaim public spaces.
As stated in a post on the official X handle, “Our enforcement teams have just completed a successful dislodgement operation against illegal street traders on Bishop Oluwole Street in Victoria Island.”
The commissioner’s statement highlighted the rationale behind the action, preceding his explanation saying,
“this action is part of our ongoing efforts to restore order, ensure free vehicular and pedestrian movement, and maintain the aesthetic and environmental standards of our city.”
Traders had been given prior notice to relocate, with warnings of stricter penalties for non-compliance,
“we urge all traders to relocate to approved markets and commercial zones. Continuous violation will attract stricter sanctions”
This latest operation is part of the state government’s broader campaign to tackle street trading and unauthorized structures across major roads in Lagos, a drive that has gained momentum in recent months.
