I Am Not a Thief’ – Ubi Franklin Addresses Watch Theft Allegations

Music executive Ubi Franklin has publicly refuted allegations that he stole a luxury watch while attending Davido’s wedding in Miami, US, over the weekend. The rumors, which began circulating on social media after a blog report on Wednesday, prompted Franklin to issue a detailed statement clarifying the events.

Taking to his X account, Franklin addressed the claims directly, stating, “I am currently aware of the recent circulation on social media linking my name to an alleged theft. I wish to make it clear that these allegations are completely false and misleading.” He added that he was addressing the matter during an “extremely difficult and sensitive time” for his family as he is preparing for his sister’s funeral.

Franklin explained that while he was in Miami, Benny approached him and offered to sell him a wristwatch. After examining the item and its ownership history, Franklin decided not to purchase the watch to “avoid any potential complications” and said he clearly communicated his decision to Benny.

Later, during the wedding church service, Franklin received a different wristwatch sent by Benny through his brother. Franklin clarified that this second watch was the one he “had purchased and paid in full.” Due to the hectic nature of the wedding events, he found himself in temporary possession of both watches. He further explained that he wore the watch he had bought and had to leave Miami immediately after the wedding to finalize his sister’s funeral arrangements.

It was only after he was on his flight back that Benny contacted him regarding the other, unpurchased wristwatch.

In his statement, Franklin firmly declared, “I want to state clearly: I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life.” He also noted that Benny had already tried to correct the false narrative earlier in the day, adding that Benny “had earlier in the day debunked this news and yet it still kept spreading.
