The father of 18-year-old Christiana Idowu, a promising 300-level student enrolled at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has desperately appealed to the conscience of the nation, revealing his deep anguish that the pursuit of justice has reached a standstill one full year after his daughter’s tragic death.
Mr. Idowu conveyed his profound sense of abandonment and frustration, explaining that he remains completely in the dark regarding the judicial progress against the individual responsible for the heinous crime.
Christiana’s young life was viciously terminated in 2024 by her supposed friend, 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, a Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), in what authorities believe was a financially motivated plot.
The gruesome act involved Adeleye deceiving Christiana into visiting his parents’ home in Ikorodu under the specific and calculated pretense of helping her repair her faulty mobile phone, an invitation that quickly turned fatal.
Upon Christiana’s arrival, the OOU student carried out the savage attack, strangling the victim before disposing of her body by burying it hastily in a shallow grave located within the premises of the Ikorodu residence.
Compounding the cruelty, the perpetrator then proceeded to demand a substantial ransom payment from the deceased’s unsuspecting mother, further highlighting the cold-blooded nature of his actions.
The accused, Ayomide Adeleye, was eventually apprehended by law enforcement agencies after confessing to the murder, revealing to investigators that his actions were driven by severe financial difficulties; he subsequently admitted to utilizing the ransom money successfully extorted from Christiana’s mother to immediately settle his own personal outstanding debts.
Now, in a newly released video that has stirred national conversation, Christiana’s grieving father, Mr. Idowu, lamented the government’s inaction, detailing the emotional toll the official silence has taken on his entire household.
He voiced his family’s collective pain and urgent need for resolution, stating:
“How can we talk about closure when we haven’t heard anything about the case? It’s been almost a year since the murder of my daughter, and the silence is agonizing. We need action now, we need justice for Christiana.
“This persistent lack of update on a documented murder case involving a university student highlights the critical need for greater transparency and speed within Nigeria’s legal system.
The Idowu family’s unwavering plea now serves as a poignant reminder to both the courts and the prosecuting bodies that the failure to swiftly administer justice effectively denies a murdered child her right to peace and condemns her family to unending emotional torment.
