The Federal Government has decided to cancel the annual Independence Day parade, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th anniversary.
This move marks a significant alteration to the nation’s traditional celebration of its founding.
The cancellation was officially announced in a statement released by the administration.
According to Mr. Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations, the government emphasized that the significance of the national milestone remains undiminished despite the change, noting that “the decision does not reduce the significance of the milestone.”
Furthermore, the official communication from the government clarified that the cancellation of the parade will not affect the entirety of the planned events for the anniversary.
The statement assured the public that “other programmes lined up for the anniversary will still take place.”
The government also used the announcement as an opportunity to address the citizenry directly, encouraging continued support for the administration’s agenda.
Nigerians were urged to lend their full weight to the ongoing changes spearheaded by the nation’s leadership. The statement concluded by extending an apology to the public for the disruption, expressing regret “for any inconvenience the cancellation may cause.”
