The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a clarification regarding reports of the alleged murder of Miss Priscilla Ocheme by her boyfriend, Ekhosuehi Iseh Elvis, at his residence in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
The police declared that preliminary investigations indicate that Priscilla’s death resulted from a road accident, not foul play as earlier speculated.
Rumours had circulated that Priscilla, who had left her family home in Karu following a minor disagreement with her widowed mother, was murdered by her boyfriend.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, refuted these claims in a statement on Tuesday. She explained that Priscilla left her boyfriend’s home on the evening of 22nd September 2024 and was subsequently involved in a fatal motorcycle accident at the Amala Moore junction in the Pyakasa area.
According to the police, the accident was witnessed by two labourers, Jerry Amos and Moses Bala, who were working nearby at a brick-producing factory. The witnesses rushed Priscilla to Pyakasa Health Centre for medical attention, from where she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi, accompanied by two police detectives. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty upon arrival at the medical centre.
In her statement, Josephine Adeh emphasised that the FCT Police Command was committed to a thorough and transparent investigation. “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media concerning the alleged murder of Miss Priscilla Ocheme by her boyfriend, Ekhosuehi Iseh Elvis, also known as Richard, at his residence in Lugbe,” she said.
The statement further detailed that Ekhosuehi, a 30-year-old man from Oredo-Benin in Edo State, had known Priscilla since their time at Madonna University. After losing contact for some years, the two reconnected in 2019 when Ekhosuehi arrived in the FCT for his youth service. He was a regular visitor to Priscilla’s family home, and she also visited him frequently.
On 22nd September 2024, following a disagreement with her mother, Priscilla decided to stay at Ekhosuehi’s residence temporarily. She left his home later that evening, intending to return to her family, when the tragic accident occurred.
The police spokesperson stressed that the FCT Police Command remains committed to professionalism and integrity in its investigations. “The safety and justice for victims remain our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring a comprehensive and fair investigation,” Adeh said. She urged the public to remain patient as the investigation continues, promising further updates as new information becomes available.
The FCT Police have reiterated their dedication to delivering a thorough investigation, ensuring that all aspects of the incident are carefully examined to bring clarity to the situation.
