Nigerian actress Elvina Ibru has shared a painful and deeply personal experience involving sexual assault and the shocking reaction she received from a healthcare worker afterwards.
During an emotional interview on the talk show With Chude, Ibru opened up about being sexually assaulted during a violent robbery at her boyfriend’s residence. While the trauma of the attack was already heavy, what followed at the hospital left her even more stunned.
According to the actress, a nurse who was also a woman asked her an inappropriate and victim blaming question.
“I had just gone through something horrible, and when I got to the hospital, the nurse looked at me and said, ‘Madam, when the man raped you, what were you wearing?’” she recalled.
Ibru said she was left in disbelief, wondering how a fellow woman could ask such a question in a moment of vulnerability.
“I just looked at her and asked, ‘What has that got to do with anything?’” she said.
