The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Federal Government to conclude the decade-long trial of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), by the end of September.
Justice Peter Lifu fixed September 24, 25, and 26, 2025, for the final hearings, ordering the prosecution to present all remaining witnesses and evidence within those dates. Once the prosecution closes its case, Dasuki will be required to open his defence.
Dasuki, first arraigned in 2015, faces an amended seven-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering. At Monday’s proceedings, Department of State Services (DSS) official Monsur Mohammed testified about searches conducted at Dasuki’s residences in Abuja, Kaduna, and Sokoto.
Items recovered from his Abuja home included foreign currencies, cheque books, laptops, mobile phones, bank statements, and other documents, all admitted in evidence without objection. From his Sokoto residence in Sabo Birni, operatives reportedly seized $150,000 and ₦37.6 million, which were deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). A second property searched in Sokoto yielded no items.
Justice Lifu emphasised that the case must be brought to an end, warning that no further delays will be tolerated when proceedings resume in September.
