Nigeria striker Victor Boniface has dismissed doubts about his fitness following his loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen.
The 24-year-old completed his transfer to Bremen on deadline day after passing a medical, ending weeks of uncertainty during which a potential move to AC Milan fell through.
Boniface, a vital part of Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning squad in 2023-24, was officially introduced by Bremen this week.
Addressing questions about his physical condition, Boniface firmly denied rumors suggesting he was not fully fit.
“Who’s questioning my fitness? If I wasn’t fully fit, I’d be in a hospital bed, not sitting here talking to you,” he stated. “Whatever the media say is their business. If my body wasn’t 100%, I wouldn’t be here.”
Since his transfer from Union Saint-Gilloise to Leverkusen in 2023, the forward has netted 32 goals and contributed 12 assists. He has also earned 13 caps for Nigeria but is yet to score in either friendly or competitive matches.
Notably, coach Eric Chelle left him out of Nigeria’s squad for the pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
Boniface now embarks on a new chapter with Werder Bremen, who see him as a key addition to their attacking options for the upcoming Bundesliga season.
