Abuja, Oct. 2, 2025 – A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Salihu Lukman, has urged former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other political heavyweights within the party to avoid plunging the ADC into deeper crisis in their quest to control its structures in Kaduna State.
Lukman, a former Vice Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), issued the caution on Wednesday in Abuja, stressing that the ADC risked internal implosion if its leaders remained fixated on factional dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His remarks follow rising tensions within the party, particularly over the controversial move to remove former Senate President David Mark as national chairman of the ADC.
“Instead of working to build the party, we are setting ourselves to produce a party whose business will be limited to presenting candidates for elections,” Lukman said. “People with ambition to contest elections have become restless and want to dominate the process of developing the structures of the party to the exclusion of their opponents.”
The party stalwart appealed for restraint and urged leaders to focus on strengthening the ADC as a credible platform for Nigerians, warning that unchecked rivalry could undermine its chances in 2027.
Political analysts note that the ADC, which has been positioning itself as an alternative voice in Nigeria’s political landscape, faces a delicate balancing act as internal divisions threaten to overshadow its preparations for the next general elections.
