Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has expressed his frustration with the current economic hardship in Nigeria, stating that even he can no longer afford diesel due to the soaring costs.
In an interview with Igbere TV, Amaechi, who also served as Governor of Rivers State, criticized Nigerians for their passive response to the ongoing economic challenges. He expressed surprise at the lack of widespread protests from the youth, given the rising cost of living.
“I expected young people to be out in the streets, protesting against these conditions, but I haven’t seen much action,” Amaechi said. “People should be angry because you can’t just watch while a group of individuals steals your money without doing anything. I am genuinely upset with citizens for not responding more actively.”
He further highlighted the severity of the situation, referencing Edo State as an example where, in his view, politicians should not even be campaigning under the current economic conditions.
Amaechi, who served nearly eight years as Minister of Transportation under the Buhari administration, also revealed that even some politicians like himself are struggling with the cost of essential items like diesel.
