Police Arrest Islamic Cleric with Suspected Human Flesh in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Bashiru, after he was found in possession of suspected human flesh.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest on Thursday in a statement posted on the Command’s verified X handle.

According to Osifeso, the suspect was intercepted on Wednesday at about 11:30 a.m. by operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol team. He was reportedly travelling in a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG along the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan Expressway.

“When quizzed, the suspect claimed to have purchased the suspected human flesh in Lagos,” Osifeso said.

He further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation. The recovered item, he added, is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity and source.

In a separate operation, the Command recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX. The car was flagged down during a stop-and-search exercise, but the driver jumped out and fled, abandoning the vehicle.

“The car has been taken into custody while members of the public with legitimate claims are advised to come forward with verifiable documents or contact the Command,” Osifeso stated.

He emphasized that the ongoing stop-and-search operations were not mere theatrics but deliberate security measures aimed at maintaining law and order across the state.

Osifeso assured residents that under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, the Command would sustain efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety.
