DSS Arrests Former PDP Governorship Candidate Ladi Adebutu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Ogun State governorship election, following alleged disturbances during the November 16, 2024, local government elections.

The PDP’s Ogun State Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta. He noted that Adebutu was invited for questioning and remains in DSS custody despite efforts to secure his release.

“This is to inform members of our great party that our leader has been detained by the DSS on charges yet to be disclosed,” Adebayo said. “Our principal has called for calm, urging members and supporters to remain peaceful as we take legal steps to resolve this matter.”

Adebayo further revealed that multiple attempts to obtain Adebutu’s release, including requests for bail on personal recognition or surety, have been unsuccessful. The party assured its members that Adebutu’s legal team would escalate the matter on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Supporters of the PDP have been advised to maintain peace as the party navigates the situation. “This time shall pass; it is one of the prices for our democracy,” Adebayo remarked.

The DSS is yet to issue an official statement regarding Adebutu’s detention or the specific charges against him.
