FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Monday declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, ruling out any personal ambition against him.
“My appointor is running. There is no way I would contest against him,” Wike told journalists in Abuja. He dismissed former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai’s prediction that Tinubu could finish third in the polls.
Wike also defended Rivers State’s recent local government elections under emergency rule and criticised Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, calling Obi a “rascal” and warning the PDP against readmitting him.
Reacting, Atiku’s aide Paul Ibe said Nigerians will determine 2027, pointing to defections of PDP members to the ADC in Lagos. Obi’s ally, Yunusa Tanko, rejected Wike’s remarks as “propaganda,” stressing that Obi remains with the Labour Party.
Obi, in a separate statement, raised concerns over Nigeria’s health system, citing UN data that put life expectancy at 54.6 years and maternal deaths at one every seven minutes.
The exchanges come as the PDP prepares for its national convention amid unresolved internal disputes.
