The United States has approved $32.5 million in humanitarian assistance to Nigeria in a bid to tackle the worsening hunger crisis across the country.
According to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the funds will support emergency nutrition programs and provide electronic food vouchers to more than 764,000 internally displaced people, including pregnant women and children in conflict-affected regions.
Nigeria has faced rising food insecurity fueled by persistent conflict in the northeast, inflation, and climate-related challenges affecting agricultural production.
Aid agencies warn that millions remain at risk of malnutrition if urgent interventions are not scaled up. Officials said the new funding underscores Washington’s continued commitment to supporting Nigeria during one of its toughest humanitarian challenges.
