Nigerian Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has been caught in a fresh storm following the emergence of a leaked audio in which he allegedly threatened Kunle Soname, owner of ValueJet airline.
In the audio, which surfaced online, the legendary musician could be heard vowing to make Soname “feel” his influence after a heated altercation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, last week.
“Nobody does that with me and gets away with it… Soname will feel it, will feel me in his business,” KWAM 1 said in the recording.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 5 when KWAM 1 attempted to board a ValueJet flight while carrying a flask he claimed contained water for medical reasons. Airline staff allegedly accused him of bringing alcohol on board and barred him from boarding.
Eyewitnesses say the confrontation escalated after the singer poured the flask’s content on a crew member and blocked the aircraft from taking off.
The drama drew the attention of aviation authorities, who have since suspended two ValueJet pilots over safety protocol breaches during the incident.
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu condemned the musician’s actions, describing them as “misplaced arrogance” and suggesting that perceived political connections may have emboldened his conduct.
The Minister of Aviation also criticized KWAM 1’s decision to obstruct the flight, warning that such actions posed serious safety risks and violated aviation regulations.
Before the leaked audio emerged, KWAM 1 had issued an apology over the confrontation, maintaining that the flask contained only water and insisting he was unfairly humiliated by the airline’s staff.
The leaked remarks, however, have reignited public outrage and polarized opinion on social media, with some accusing the musician of abusing privilege, while others defend his right to carry medically necessary items on board.
As of press time, ValueJet has not issued a formal statement on the leaked audio, while it remains unclear whether the threat will lead to legal or regulatory consequences for the Fuji star
