Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, a highly respected figure among Muslims in southwestern Nigeria, has passed away. His death occurred in the early hours of Friday, though specific details about the circumstances of his passing were not immediately available.

Among those mourning him is educationist Saheed Oladele, who recounted a touching memory of his recent interaction with Sheikh Bello. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Oladele described the cleric’s remarkable vigor despite his advanced age. “When I visited baba last, he saw me off and stood talking to me outside for more than 30 minutes. I was wondering how someone over 80 could stand that long when I was tired at my age,” Oladele wrote, highlighting Sheikh Bello’s enduring strength and humility.
Another Islamic scholar, Sheikh Taofeeq Akeugbagold, paid an emotional tribute to the cleric, referring to him as both a father and mentor. In his message, Akeugbagold said, “Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland Sheikh Muyideen AJANI BELLO, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Fridaos for you. Our heart is full of grief and our eyes full of tears but we will say nothing but what will please our Creator, the sole commander of life and death – ALLAH.”
Born in 1940, Sheikh Muyideen Bello had a long and impactful life, dedicating his efforts to the spiritual growth and enlightenment of the Muslim community. Based in Ibadan, he was one of the spiritual leaders of the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria and was widely known for his eloquence in preaching and his ability to connect deeply with people of all ages and backgrounds.
