The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has fired back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its criticism of the governors’ recent meeting in Zamfara State, accusing the party of playing politics with insecurity.
The governors, who gathered in Gusau on Saturday, defended the purpose of the meeting, saying it was aimed at showing solidarity with the people of Zamfara and discussing strategic approaches to the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday night by the Forum’s Director-General, Hon. CID Maduabum, the PDP governors condemned the ADC’s remarks as “insensitive,” stressing that leadership in times of crisis should be guided by empathy, not political point-scoring.
“The PDP Governors are deeply concerned about the security challenges ravaging our country. Our meeting in Zamfara was not for optics—it was to listen, support, and chart solutions,” Maduabum said.
He added that the ADC’s attempt to twist the meeting’s intention was regrettable and unbecoming of a party that claims to care about Nigerians.
The visit also served as a show of support for Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, who has been vocal in his efforts to confront insecurity in the state. Governor Lawal, while receiving his colleagues, reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to restore peace.
While security was a major item on the agenda, the PDP governors also used the opportunity to review the party’s internal structure ahead of its upcoming national convention and to align strategies toward the 2027 general elections.
The ADC had earlier described the PDP meeting as a “self-serving tour,” alleging that it was a ploy to gain political relevance rather than a sincere intervention in the security crisis.
Responding to this, the PDP governors described the statement as “an unfortunate attempt to politicize human suffering,” calling on the ADC to engage in more constructive national discourse.
The meeting was attended by governors from Osun, Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Bauchi, and Akwa Ibom States, among others.
As insecurity continues to threaten communities across Nigeria, the PDP Governors’ Forum reiterated its commitment to pushing for meaningful reforms and offering responsible, people-centered leadership.
