The Lagos State Police Command announced yesterday that they will be bringing Samsideen Oladiti, a 55-year-old official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) also known as Shamelon, to court. The arraignment is due to his alleged involvement in two violent crimes that occurred on Lagos Island.
According to the police, the charges against Oladiti include murder and assault causing harm. He is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti-Yaba, where investigations are ongoing.
On September 17, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., the suspect reportedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, causing severe injuries with a helmet and his fists. The victim was taken to the hospital, where they were put on oxygen and are still undergoing treatment.
The police reported that on September 18, at about 11:00 a.m., another complaint was filed against Oladiti concerning an event on August 28, 2025. During a confrontation, the suspect allegedly used a metal ring to repeatedly hit a man on the head and face, resulting in serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, the victim was pronounced dead by a doctor on September 17. His body is currently at a mortuary for an autopsy.
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, along with officers, visited the scene and assured residents that the suspect is in custody and will be brought to justice after the investigation. Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, also confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned once the investigation is finished.
