Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles goalkeeper, has lost his father.
The 28-year-old announced the demise of his father in a post on his Instagram story in the early hours of Friday.
“RIP Dad. Rest in Heaven,” he wrote in subsequent posts.
The goalkeeper, however, did not reveal the cause of the death.
The death of Nwabali’s father happened a few hours after the goalkeeper was in goal for the Eagles in their 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match.
Nigeria qualified for the 2025 AFCON a few minutes before the game after Libya defeated Rwanda in the group’s other game.
Nwabali’s teammates in the Super Eagles sent the goalkeeper commiseration messages over his loss.
William Troost-Ekong, Victor Boniface, Moses Simon, and Amas Obasogie are among those who have posted condolences on social media.
