Manchester United have finalised the signing of Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €85 million, strengthening their forward line ahead of the new Premier League season.
Reports from the BBC, The Athletic and Sky Sports confirm that United will pay an initial €76.5 million for the 22-year-old, with an extra €8.5 million in add-ons. Personal terms have already been agreed, bringing an end to weeks of speculation about his future.
Šeško, who scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season, had been on the radar of Newcastle United, who viewed him as a possible replacement for Liverpool target Alexander Isak, but the lure of Old Trafford proved decisive, even without European football next season.
His arrival is part of a sweeping transformation of United’s forward line. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have already joined the club in recent months, taking total spending on attacking talent to more than £200 million.
United’s need for goals is urgent. Last season, they managed just 44 in the league as they endured their worst campaign in over half a century, finishing 15th.
Standing 1.95 metres tall, Šeško combines aerial power with pace and finishing instinct, earning comparisons with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Like Haaland, his rise began at RB Salzburg before a move to Germany in 2023. In two seasons with Leipzig, he netted 39 times in 87 appearances.
Between them, United’s three new forwards scored 58 goals last season, and the club’s hierarchy will hope that firepower is enough to push the team back into contention. But the spending spree also means results will need to come quickly, with financial sustainability rules looming large in the absence of European revenue.
