Nigerians have expressed mixed feelings over the content of carrying out abortion in a book named “College Basic science and Technology for junior secondary school three” on its 135th page.
In a post on X ( formerly Twitter ) a user Alex onyia raised an alarm on the content of the book and called on major stakeholders to look into the content for a JSS1 student as he also queries the approval of the book by the NERDC ( Nigeria Educational Research and Development) which is responsible for approval of school textbooks.
In a comment on X , a user @ramsonRex said ” the curriculum needs to be reviewed not by woke trained expert by by upright and morally sound expert to stop all these nonsense, it’s Nigerian parents wake up”.
However, some other argued that the contents were okay to teach students sex education and dangers of abortion before they are negatively influenced by the social media.
A user @OAPchuks said “so adolescents should not know the consequence of abortion ?, Being intelligible is beyond passing jamb, what is the essence of school if it will not equip students with life skills ?”
And another user @dewolemi1 reiterated, ” what’s wrong here ? I read through it “.
The National President of the Nigeria conference of principals of public schools and the parents teachers association strongly condemns the contents and called on all schools and major stakeholders to shun the use of the book stating that such contents is not in the curriculum for the junior secondary school students.
