Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that his team could be the worst in the club’s 147-year history after another dismal performance at Old Trafford.
United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton on home turf, marking their fourth loss in five home games.
The result leaves United with just two wins from their first 10 Premier League matches, a record that has not been seen since the 1893-94 season, when the club was still known as Newton Heath.
Speaking at a candid post-match press conference, Amorim acknowledged the gravity of the situation and did not shy away from the team’s shortcomings.
“In ten Premier League games, we have won two,” Amorim said. “I know that. Imagine what this is like for a Manchester United fan. Imagine what this is like for me. We brought in a new coach, and he is losing more games than the last coach. I am fully aware of that.”
Despite the mounting pressure, Amorim expressed his commitment to turning things around. “I am not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now.”
The manager’s most striking remark came when he admitted, “We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United. I know you want headlines, and I am giving you one. But I am saying it because we need to acknowledge where we are in order to change it.”
United’s current struggles represent an unprecedented low for the club, whose storied history includes numerous domestic and international triumphs. Amorim’s comments underline the challenges he faces in rebuilding a team that continues to struggle both defensively and offensively.
