In a bold demonstration of people-centered representation, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, on Monday embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of newly completed road projects facilitated through his office. The tour took him across various communities where residents turned out in numbers to welcome and appreciate his efforts in delivering long-awaited infrastructure upgrades.
The roads completed and delivered include Ojokoro Road (Agric), Nurudeen Owolabi, Alogba (Lowa), Apena Jimbo, Jalajugbo, Ibu Owo, Agunfoye, Ojediran, and Andu/Oshikoya. These projects, strategically located across Lagos East, are part of a broader infrastructural agenda championed by Senator Abiru to open up communities and improve the quality of life for residents.
The Senator was received with fanfare and heartfelt gratitude by community leaders, residents, and motorists alike who described the road rehabilitations as long-overdue interventions. At each stop, the atmosphere was filled with applause and appreciation for what many called “a rare show of responsive governance.”
Speaking during the inspection, Senator Abiru reiterated his commitment to delivering impactful constituency projects based on the real needs of the people. He noted that all projects undertaken were borne out of consultations with community stakeholders, stressing that infrastructure development remains a key priority under his stewardship.
“They are about easing the burden of residents, opening up communities for economic prosperity, and ensuring that our people enjoy the dignity of living in decent environments,” he stated. “I am encouraged by the positive feedback, and even more determined to do more.”
Senator Abiru also revealed plans for the commencement of construction in additional areas before the end of the year. These include Soji Oshodi/Mutairu/Okeme Street in Pedro (Somolu/Bariga), Olulonyo-Ebuwawa Road in Agbede (Ikorodu North), Utuh Street and Akanimodo in Mile 12 (Agboyi-Ketu), Ondo Street in Ajegunle (Agboyi-Ketu), Otolu-Ilagbo in Lekki, and Rala/Oshokeji Street in Ketu (Epe), among others. The second phases of Ojokoro Road and Agunfoye are also scheduled for construction.
In a particularly emotional moment during the tour, 92-year-old Alhaji Jimoh Folorunsho Alogba expressed deep appreciation to the Senator, commending him for delivering a project many had given up on.
“We never thought we would see this road fixed in record time. Senator Abiru has given us hope that responsive leadership still exists,” the nonagenarian remarked.
Another resident, Mutiu Abiodun Banjo, described Abiru as a “listening representative” who acts on the voice of the people. “We raised this matter not too long ago, and today, he is here to witness the timely completion of the work. This is the kind of leadership people want,” Banjo said.
The Senator used the opportunity to urge residents to protect and maintain the completed infrastructure, noting that community ownership and collaboration are critical to long-term sustainability.
Beyond infrastructure, Senator Abiru continues to earn accolades for his work in other sectors. Through his SAIL Empowerment Foundation, hundreds of young people have been trained in digital and tech skills, with many already placed in gainful employment. His interventions in education, health, and social welfare have also impacted thousands of constituents.
The latest round of completed projects adds to the growing evidence of Senator Abiru’s commitment to delivering practical solutions to the needs of Lagos East.
