The Lagos State Government has given traders at the popular Computer Village in Ikeja 18 months to move to a new permanent site at Katangowa, located in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, announced this during a stakeholders’ meeting with market leaders and traders on Tuesday.
Oki explained that the government has provided adequate infrastructure and facilities at Katangowa to create a conducive environment for business operations once the relocation is completed.
“The government wants your cooperation to ensure this relocation happens. The time is now. We must make this project a reality. The relocation period is 18 months,” he stated.
He noted that the current location of Computer Village was initially designated as a residential area but gradually transformed into a commercial hub without official government approval.
According to Oki, plans to relocate the traders have been ongoing since 2006 but were delayed due to incomplete development at the new site. He assured stakeholders that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to ensuring a smooth and inclusive relocation process.
“Katangowa sits on 15 hectares of well-planned land, strategically located near resources vital for your businesses. Unlike the current site in Ikeja, this new location offers a structured and sustainable market environment that supports growth while addressing urban planning challenges,” Oki added.
He appealed to traders to cooperate with the government to ensure a seamless transition to the new market.
