Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has released a brand-new single titled “Kelebu.” The track marks his third release of the year, following the earlier singles “Baby (Is It a Crime)” and “Bout U.”
Reflecting on his musical inspiration, Rema shared in a press release:
“Growing up, I didn’t have a phone to create my own music taste. My household had different music preferences, so I listened to what everybody played. At school functions, we used to dance to a lot of Caribbean and Francophone songs. We didn’t care about what they were saying—most of them weren’t even in our local language in Nigeria. They just kept repeating one word with a fantastic instrumental backing it up, and we all danced. Making music now, I’m reliving those moments by expressing it through my art.”
The release of “Kelebu” comes as Rema wraps up his global tour in support of his 2023 project Heis. During the tour, he performed at some of the world’s most iconic venues, including Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Madison Square Garden in New York, and The O2 Arena in London, among others.
