Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has inaugurated a 40-bed Trauma Centre at Ikorodu General Hospital alongside the newly constructed Lambo Lasunwon Road, marking significant advancements in healthcare and infrastructure for the area.
The trauma centre, aimed at providing critical emergency care, was initiated by Hon. Babajimi Benson, who represents the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The Lambo Lasunwon Road, designed to improve mobility, connects residents of First Gate in Ikorodu to key streets such as Obasuki and Oladele Taiwo, facilitating smoother transportation for cars and motorcycles.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Hamzat lauded Hon. Benson for his commitment to the community, emphasizing that true leadership is about service, not just winning elections.
“Leadership should extend beyond elections; it should be about genuine service to the people,” Dr. Hamzat said.
He also highlighted Lagos State’s ongoing infrastructure progress, noting that 69% of the state’s 9,189 roads have been tarred.
Hon. Benson expressed his appreciation to the state government for its support in establishing the trauma centre, which he believes will save lives and enhance healthcare services for Ikorodu and nearby areas.
He also noted that the Lambo Lasunwon Road would provide much-needed relief to residents, particularly during the rainy season.
Dr. Hassan, Medical Director of Ikorodu General Hospital, praised the addition of the trauma centre, noting that it will significantly improve emergency services, especially as the hospital’s current Accident and Emergency unit has only 15 beds.
The hospital serves over 90,000 patients monthly and the new facility will further boost its capacity to deliver critical care.
Hon. Adeola Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, applauded the completion of the Lambo Lasunwon Road, stressing its importance in alleviating transportation difficulties, particularly during bad weather.
Ambassador Biliamin Olalekan Oba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development, commended Hon. Benson’s dedication to community development, calling the trauma centre and road projects “game-changers for Ikorodu.”
Other local leaders, including Odumbo Taiwo, Principal of Lagos State University International School, and Tijani Olasunkanmi, APC Chairman for Ikorodu, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact these developments will have on residents’ quality of life.
Hon. Babajimi Benson reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure, healthcare, and welfare services in Ikorodu, ensuring continued growth for the community.
